Project

Funding period 15.11.2016 23:59 Uhr
Realisation period 30.12.2017
Funding goal 28,000 €
City KwaZulu
Category Social Business
Empowering people from poverty stricken rural areas with no perspective to become catering entrepreneurs, providing employment and healthy food.

What is this project all about?

The aim would be to have at least 5 successfully run sustainable companies come out of each of these projects, therefore employing more people permanently in the business and some on a casual basis so that they can uplift their communities.

TARGETED COMMUNITIES:
1. BHIZANA COMMUNITY - EASTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA
2. MAPHUMULO COMMUNITY - KWAZULU NATAL, SOUTH AFRICA

These are poverty stricken rural areas with no prospects of employment. The best way to alleviate poverty and reduce unemployment would be to be an entrepreneur and create employment for community members. Though community members are keen, they do not have access to money to acquire the required skills.
Both Kwazulu Natal and the Eastern cape have the highest population rate in South African and are mostly rural. This makes it difficult for these communities to get out of the cycle of Poverty due to a lack of skills development centers.
Candidate selection will be made with the help of local community leaders, based on a strict criteria and interview process to ensure that we are training committed and passionate individuals.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

To train community members how to start and run sustainable catering businesses, offer employment to others and feed their communities.
The objective is to have at least 5 successfully run sustainable catering companies come out of each of these projects, therefore employing more people permanently in the business.

Why would you support this project?

  • To enable people to uplift themselves and their communities at large.
  • Support a path breaking project, which is moving the world together and strengthens solidarity.
  • If you like you can be close and directly involved in the training process.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

Covered by the Training would be the following:

Entrepreneurship
Business Management
Book keeping
Branding and Marketing
Customer relationship management
Food Safety
Food preparation
Food Service and Presentation
Nutrition
Interpersonal Human Relations

This would be a 12 months training programme in two different communities consisting of practicals. Participants can not miss any of the training sessions and will be encouraged to register their own businesses and start operating whilst in the programme with the help of their mentor.
Participants will be encouraged to register their businesses in groups in order to support one another.
During training there will be continuous assessment of the candidates.
The aim is to have 3-5 successfully run sustainable catering companies come out of each of these projects, therefore employing more people permanently and some on a casual basis thus assisting in uplifting communities.

Who are the people behind the project?

Project development, realization and supervision is provided by Mr Michael Müller, owner of a socially engaged consulting enterprise which is based in Zurich, Switzerland. Training will be done by Ms Zanele Khanyile who has a lecturing background and also a qualified Chef, Zanele has lectured on Business management and entrepreneurship at a Tertiary Education level.
