What is this project all about?
What has to happen for one liquidating his entire household,
packing up the remaining bits and pieces into a little car, moving
to a different continent to start over – everyone else would
probably call it crazy.
Traveling as a nomad, experiencing dangerous new things, exploring undiscovered areas and pushing the car and yourself to a new limit. Sleeping in a rooftop car tent, waking up by the sounds of wild animals, reaching for the bright stars.
Tobias Köhn was in South Africa, Namibia and Zambia, accompanied by no one but his off-road vehicle which he remodeled and fixed himself multiple times during and before his stay.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
From one weekend to another, one vacation followed by another one, year by year. School, then college, job, wife, house, kids, pension and finally death. A job with working hours from nine till five in which you are either unhappy or have to work long hours even though they will never be paid back. You have just acclimated with and adapted to the destination of your well-deserved annual vacation, started to embark on the country and started to leave all worries behind right when the vacation is over.
Have you found yourself in that description? Perfect. There are plenty of alternative ways to live. Do you need some inspiration?
This movie is for you.
Why would you support this project?
Finding luck in your surroundings is a task for life. Some may
find it in their job, others in a mental or physical project,
through a special person or place that inspires him or her.
This movie isn’t going to be a documentary about South Africa and Namibia. It’s going to be a visualized poem about my very own story, which shaped the person I am today, the person I always wanted to be. Isn’t that the thing that matters most in life? Being happy with who you are, doing the things you love and make you happy?
I can’t promise this movie to be the one changing your life but maybe my bumpy way can serve as an inspiration for you and lead you to your own dream destination…
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
The story doesn’t start in South Africa. It starts one year in advance. We are going to tell every part of it. From the very beginning to the very end.
The main part of this crowd funding money will serve for my
living expenses because I will not be able to work in a second job
while focusing on the movie production.
The other big part will be spent on my crew and cast. We will shoot scenes with actresses, which are already totally into this project. Your share lets us pay for call-out fees, catering, music licenses, work related costs, light, sound and extra camera equipment which we are keen to rent, so that we can offer you the highest quality possible.
If there is money left, I am planning on working with the great Ina Meredi Arakelian again. She will tape some soundtracks with an orchestra only composed for this movie. The track “Cruelty” is the result of one of our prior projects.
Who are the people behind the project?
Tobias Köhn traveled the southern part of Africa with his small off-road vehicle for half a year. He documented this journey in a YouTube show called “ACME Adventure”. But because time in Africa was too valuable to spend it with time-consuming editings, he produced vlogs, which only show parts of his journey. Now he takes the needed time to tell the whole story.
Lars Brauer plays, besides Tobias, the main part in this cinema project. He has a Bachelor degree in media design with his mayor in film.
