Der Dokumentarfilm „Hurra! Es ist ein Mädchen!“ stellt in 25 biografischen Skizzen Frauen vor, die das Werden und Wachsen der Stadt Chemnitz in Sachsen im Laufe ihres 875-jährigen Bestehens geprägt, beeinflusst und mitgestaltet haben. Manche haben - und auch sie sind Teil der Geschichte der Stadt - Chemnitz verlassen, um ihr persönliches Glück woanders zu suchen. Dazu gehören u. a. Künstlerinnen, Schriftstellerinnen, Sportlerinnen, aber auch Ärztinnen und politische Aktivistinnen.
