In the middle of a shopping center a meeting place has been created, a shop front transformed into a place of social interaction.
Our doors are open to everyone. We live integration and make it possible for people to meet and get to know each other despite language barriers.
There are open play times and age-specific activities.
We sing and make music, read books and tell stories. We offer coffee, tea and cake, and on Saturdays there is a free breakfast and lunch.
We have creative activities as well as sports.
To sum it up: we try and use our rooms in as many ways as we can.
We offer people a place where they can simply be. They find an open ear, and a place where their spiritual questions are heard.
Everything we offer is for free, be it a cup of tea, the cake in the pensioners’ group or the lunch meal we cook together with the boys group.
In an innercity suburb where over 50% of the children live under the poverty line we ensure that those who need it most receive these things.
We welcome everybody who wants to come in and take advantage of the activites we offer.
-to meet people where they are at in their daily lifes
-to build community
-to speak openly about faith and getting to know God
Our activites are free. Whether its a cup of coffee, a piece of cake in the seniors meeting or the lunch cooked together after the boys meeting.
In a area of the city where 50% of the children grow up below the poverty line, we make sure that especially those whose budgets are tight can enjoy everything we offer.
At the moment we are struggling to make ends meet financially and so we would like to invite you to become a part of the work here.
We have the passion and the love for the people and you have the financial wherewithall to make it happen!
If we combine our forces then we can develop something really worthwhile. Long term we would love to develop a group of sponsors where the monthly running costs can be fully covered. We realise this could take some time and hope that by this fundraising action we can at least win some breathing space in order to realise our long term goals to raise financial partners.
When we calculate the minimum we need this year we come to a figure of 8800 Euros. But then we need to run on the absolute minimum. This would cover just the rent and the food costs for the meetings.
However, if we´re reaching our total funding goal then we can cover such things as a new oven for the kitchen, put on a grill party, or take the kids on trips out.
And if we break all our targets and have more than we need we would love to employee a part time helper. That would be wonderful!
The work lives by the people who get involved. That is, among others:
She left her home in the South of Germany after finishing her training as a childhood educator, and moved to Hamburg. She has been involved for over 6 years with the shop. Her love for those, even without the ability to understand the German language, is obvious. and she tries to encourage community as authentically as possible. Her love for creativity flows seemlessly into what we do.
8 years ago Alim moved here from Fiji, to encourage people through his own life story. Through his story he has a particular connection to the young people who live in the area, and wants to help them find alternative ways to deal with their frustration.
Jim and his family are English but have lived and worked for almost 20 years in Germany. Their heart is to see a difference in Germany, to see people come into their calling and have their lives changed.
Our team consists of 9 volunteer staff and helpers. we come from 4 different countries and each helps as much as they feel able ( but always whole heartedly) in the Church in the centre.
