What is this project all about?
With this project we want that the living musicians from the
70's, have an opportunity to present themselves. Most of them are
known only by their records and LPs. Their stories should not
We also want to make a contribution to music history with this book. We won't forget: Besides the European music history there exists also a West African music history.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
This project is aimed at music enthusiasts and culture lovers.
In order to bring the music and the history of the musicians
closer, we want to create an autobiographical book of
This is a FAIR project. The book will be purchased by production. Each musician gets a pre-financing as well as a fixed percentage of each sold copy.
Why would you support this project?
Today rare records of popular music from the 70s from Benin are
highly sought after. However, no information is available about the
lives of their players. Few people know that the still living
musicians are not able to live from their music today .
We want to tell their story on a fair basis.
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
With the money, production cost of the book will be financed, in
order to provide the Beninese musicians a fair financial exchange
for their work.
For the texts, a Beninese journalist will be commissioned.
Who are the people behind the project?
- Check und Joe, from the Discshop "LP-House" in Porto-Novo (Bénin)
- Sylvestre Gogan, "Professeur de Musique" from Porto-Novo, Bénin
- La maison du patrimoine de la culture, Porto-Novo (Bénin)
