Lars Mlekusch (*1978 in Baden/Schweiz) ist ein international vielbeachteter Saxophonist, der sich insbesondere als leidenschaftlicher Verfechter zeitgenössischer Musik einen herausragenden Namen gemacht hat. Er ist Mitglied des Solistenensembles PHACE und regelmässiger Gastmusiker des Klangforum Wien. Daneben spezialisierte er sich auf live-elektronische Aufführungen mit dem Duo Saxophonic und räumt auch vermehrt der Improvisation einen wichtigen Platz ein. Er hat zahlreiche für ihn geschriebene Solowerke und Konzerte uraufgeführt. Konzertreisen führten ihn an renommierte Festivals in Europa (z.B. Donaueschinger Musiktage, Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik, Berliner Festspiele, Salzburger Festspiele, Festival d´Automne Paris, Wien Modern), Asien, Neuseeland und in die USA.
Lars Mlekusch studierte Saxophon an der Hochschule für Musik Basel (Marcus Weiss) und an bei der Northwestern University Chicago (Frederick L. Hemke). Er wirkte bis 2007 als Assistent an der Hochschule für Musik Basel und ist seit 2005 Professor für Saxophon und Kammersmusik an der Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität. Daneben wird er regelmäßig an renommierte Ausbildungsstätten für Musik als Gastdozent eingeladen (so am Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Royal College of Music Stockholm, Royal College of Music Londo, Northwestern University Chicago, Conservatorio Superior Madrid, Conservatoire Strasbourg, Conservatorio Santa Cecilia Roma, Hochschule für Musik Basel, Music Univesity Riga, Hochschule für Musik Köln u.v.a.) und unterrichtet bei internationalen Meisterkursen (z.B. Université Européenne de Saxophone à Gap). Gefragt ist er auch als Juror nationaler und internationaler Wettbewerbe („Int. Jean-Marie Londeix Saxophone Competition Bangkok 2011“ und „Int. Saxophone Competition Nova Gorica 2011“, „Deutscher Musikwettbewerb 2012“ ).
Bei Emilio Pomárico in Mailand holte er sich wichtige Impulse für seine Dirigiertätigkeit unter anderem mit dem Vienna Saxophonic Orchestra, dessen künstlerischer Leiter und Dirigent er seit 2009 ist.

LARS MLEKUSCH was born in 1978 in Switzerland. He has established himself as one of the leading classical saxophonists of his generation. He has performed in prestigious concert halls and at festivals in most European countries as well as in New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, China and in the USA. He is a member of the Vienna based soloist ensemble PHACE and a regular guest musician with the Klangforum Wien. His performances have been broadcast on many major radio stations in Europe. Specialized in contemporary music, Lars Mlekusch has performed numerous world premieres for solo saxophone or works written for one of his ensembles. The Duo Saxophonic is exploring the possibilities of combining saxophone with live-electronics and has premiered many works by composers such as
Germán Toro-Perez, Jorge Sanchez-Chiong or Karlheinz Essl. Since 2009 he is the artistic director and conductor of the Vienna Saxophonic Orchestra which has quickly gained international recognition.
Since 2005, Lars Mlekusch is professor for saxophone and chamber music at the Konservatorium Wien University where he is leading a highly successful international saxophone class. From Feburary 2015 he is also the saxophone professor at the Zurich University of the Arts. From 2004 to 2007 he was also
teaching saxophone at the University of Music in Basel. Mlekusch has been teaching Masterclasses at several conservatories and music universities in the world (e.g in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Basel, Tokyo, Chengdu, Shanghai,
Bejing, Lucerne, Brussels, Milan, Rome, Ljubljana, Madrid, Sevilla,
Boulogne- Billancourt (Paris), Palma de Mallorca, Bangkok and many more). In 2011 he was invited to be part of the jury at the International Saxophone Competition in Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and at the 3rd International Jean-Marie Londeix competition in Bangkok. He has also been invited by Claude Delangle to teach at the Université Européenne de saxophone in Gap (France).
Lars Mlekusch is a graduate from the University of Music in Basel where he studied saxophone with Marcus Weiss and from Northwestern University (Chicago) studying with Frederick L. Hemke. He also enjoyed conducting lessons with Emilio Pomárico in Milan, which led him to explore a new musical journey through conducting.
