The Berlin cinema landscape is one of the most diverse in the world. The passionate teams that run arthouse cinemas are committed to bringing numerous films and events to 78 screens each week, thereby presenting a program that is as diverse as the city. Cinema releases beyond the mainstream from all over the world, international festivals, children and youth work, retrospectives, film talks, panel discussions, strange festivals: in our cinemas, you can dive into different realities, where you can laugh, learn, love and debate.
Berlin lives and loves its cinemas like no other city, as well as their Europe-wide unique diversity in programming. We want to provide this same diverse and exciting cinema experience for you in the future, and therefore we need your support! Because even though we currently have no money coming in, there are many ongoing costs that need to be covered during this time. Like many other culture based companies, it’s impossible to build financial reserves. We have to work together and face these challenges collectively. Right now it’s not just about our cultural future, but rather about everyone at home, our families and our daily interactions with our fellow humans.
To all you big and small cinema goers, film fanatics and lovers of Berlin from every part of our beloved city, in all of Germany and even all over the world – be a part of our futures! We look forward to continuing this love story with cinema. With all of the arthouse cinemas in Berlin. And of course, with you!
It is our goal to keep the Berlin cinema landscape as colourful and interesting as it has been in the past years and decades. Your donation can help cinemas to cover some of their ongoing costs. Simultaneously, we want to show the government that we need financial help to continue, and this needs to come quickly and be of a reasonable amount.
We want to reach like-minded people, cinema goers, filmmakers, those who love their local neighbourhood and Berlin fans from across the globe.
Culture is not only for enjoyment and entertainment. It is important for our mental and emotional health. What else stops us from going crazy right now in our homes? Films, books, and music. Culture makes this possible every day, not just in difficult times like these when we spend most of our time in confined spaces. .
Arthouse cinemas are an important part of Berlin culture. The diversity of life to be found on the streets of our capital city is reflected in our film programs. We, the arthouse cinemas who have created this campaign, have one important thing in common: we are passionate about cinema. Yet we are all different in the way that we work. If this diversity is important to you, support us!
The money we receive from donations will be distributed amongst the Berlin arthouse cinemas who are part of this campaign according to their number of screens.
