Decolonize! e.V. supports the film team to realize the shooting in Ghana.
Ghana is the place of origin of Akosua's father. Her search for belonging leads the film team therefore to the capital Accra. The film is a reflection on identity and the representation of migration stories. What is the project goal and who is the project for?
FAMILIAR PLACES aims to contribute to the empowerment of womxn and Black / PoC womxn in the film industry, to make migration stories visible and to reflect diversity.
In Germany, about a quarter of the population has a so-called migration background. However, the film is not only aimed at all those people who themselves know multiple affiliation and related issues. By supporting the trip to Accra, you are making a significant contribution to the making of the film.
You are also contributing to the empowerment of womxn and Black/PoC womxn in the film industry. You are promoting their visibility in front of the camera and increasing the visibility and representation of migration stories as well as diversity in the film landscape.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
With the funds available so far, the filming in Germany can be realized; however, this does not allow for a shooting trip to Ghana. This filming trip is essential for the content of this project, as shooting in Germany can only depict part of the reality of life of the Ghanaian-German protagonist.
