The entire amount will be invested in the design and development of the app. In the first version we offer 3 games and a gallery to manage your family photos.
With the app Golden Memories we want to give people with dementia and their relatives a tool to change their lives for the better.
The idea
The idea for the app Golden Memories emerged from a research project about old family photography, remembering and memory disorders. The outcome of the project is intended to be a one-stop access to personal memories enhanced by memory-training methods that can benefit both anyone with memory disorders and the quality of life of those with whom they interrelate. Due to the Corona pandemic, we could not continue our idea in its original analog form. And that was the beginning of the App Golden Memories.
For some people, anti-dementia medications slow the progression of the disease; others can't tolerate them or simply don't want to take them. That there is no cure doesn't mean we can't do something helpful. Through Golden Memories, we enable dementia patients to feel more joy again, as well as gain a new sense of self-confidence. Through the app, they not only train their memory, but also improve their communication skills and social bonds.
The games
The most important part of this project is the various photo games (photo-memory, puzzles, photo family tree, etc.), which are filled with life by virtue of their recollection of family, vacations, hobbies and other memories. Engaging with one's own life story helps dementia patients connect past experiences with present ones. When communication with people with dementia becomes difficult, old photographs as a means of communication enable a form of dialogue that goes far beyond words. Photographs can have a central role as catalysts of memories - not only in this project.
Golden Memories offers a new concept of memory training for people with mild or severe memory disorders. These people and their relatives can use the app Golden Memories at any time. The tablet app is free and needs be downloaded only once. The users, on their own, are able to always create new and different personalized photo games. While people with memory impairment do their memory training, their children and grandchildren learn about their family history through old photographs from the family archive.
Connecting generations
The app aims to create a connection between seniors (a completely analog generation) and children/youth (digital generation), in addition to strengthening the quality of the relationships among these generations.
Our app aims to train cognitive skills, strengthen social interaction and share memories. People with dementia, their relatives, but also nursing homes and caregivers will benefit from this app.
Dementia is affecting more and more people in Germany and around the world. We want to use new, innovative methods and products not only to help the people affected, but also to facilitate and improve interaction with children, grandchildren, spouses, caregivers, friends and acquaintances:
-> Our aim is to improve in a meaningful way the lives of people with dementia and that of their relatives. We believe in the possibilities of digital technologies to exploit untapped potential in the fight against dementia: by training cognitive skills and strengthening social interaction through shared memories.
-> Our free tablet app makes cognitive training fun and easy. Use your own photos, create your own personal training experience and relive memories. The app's accessible and audience-centric design makes it a barrier-free experience. You may modify your photographic input as you choose.
-> Golden Memories can bring seniors closer to their family again and also reduce seniors' feeling of loneliness.
Besides that, a generous percentage of the app‘s benefits will be donated for research in the field of preventing dementia.

Golden Memories
Dear supporters,
We are thrilled with your support so far and with all the encouragement we have received! 16 days left!
Together with Startnext, we have decided to set our funding goal at 15,000 euros. During the last weeks, some new perspectives have opened up, which have changed the conditions for us very positively. With this adjustment, we are getting a little closer to our goal of realising the app.
We are also currently conducting some interviews with neuroscientists, care experts and affected families to incorporate their expertise into the process of designing and developing the app. We have already gained many valuable insights and partners through this.
We are ready for the final spurt and continue to welcome all kinds of support.
Your Golden Memories Team
Dear all,
Currently we are at 13.710 Euros, which means that to reach our goal we still need to collect 11.290 Euros. To make this happen, we decided together with Startnext to let our crowdfunding campaign run one month longer. This gives us more time to reach our funding goal and get closer to our goal of implementing the app.
At this point, a big thank you to Startnext (Elisa Palacios, is a wonderful contact/coach!) for accommodating us here and helping us reach our goal. Thank you also, from the bottom of our hearts, to everyone who has supported us so wonderfully and generously to this point.
Another thank you goes to CREATIVE.NRW, who are going all out for the project.
The extension of the campaign period also means that the sending of thank-you gifts for those of you who have already supported us will be slightly delayed. We hope for your understanding here.
We still need you as our supporters!
How? Please continue to share the campaign link with as many people as possible. Every support helps us tremendously and helps to create our app Golden Memories. Every support and sharing also creates more awareness about the challenges of living with dementia .
