I LOVE MY CARL ist ein Zeichentrickfilm im Look der frühen 1930er Jahre, als Walt Disneys „Steamboat Willie“, E. C. Segars „Popeye the Sailor“ und Max Fleischers „Betty Boop“ zum ersten Mal zu sehen und hören waren: Klare, schwarze Umrisslinien der Figuren mit aufwendigen Hintergründen. Typische Stilelemente des Stummfilms finden sich auch in I LOVE MY CARL wieder: abrupte Schnitte, übertriebene Gestik und Mimik sowie Texttafeln.
