What is this project all about?

Education should be accessible to everyone. In Lebanon, it is a luxury. The economic and political crisis has thrown the country into chaos. Tuition fees have doubled and have become a burden beyond the means of students and their families. Many students are forced to drop out of their studies due to the situation in the country. To prevent this and enable students to still complete their studies, we want to offer them our support. We want to empower Lebanon’s youth by investing into their education so they can build a better tomorrow.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The target group of our initiative are students who have already completed two thirds of their university degree and are no longer able to pay the high tuition fees due to the economic situation. The selection criteria focus on personal motivation, social commitment and future plans as well as progressive visions.

Why would you support this project?

More than 80 000 students in Lebanon are unable to pay their tuition fees. 78% of the population are below the poverty line. Students are denied access to education due to the difficult conditions in the country. The general lack of accessible education is known as the origin of poverty. The inability to get an education or being forced to drop out can lead to a vicious cycle, pushing even more people into poverty.
However, the opportunity to study can break this cycle. By funding students, we want to help them shape their own future and lead their country out of the crisis.
It all starts with education.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

In order to be able to ensure that all donations generated are used in accordance with the purpose of the initiative, we disclose all money flows in a comprehensible form. The money can be donated via our Startnext campaign and then flows via Stripe to our association account at GLS Bank. From here, we have two options for transferring the money to our KANIYA Scholars in Lebanon:

1. The money will be transferred directly to the respective university covering the open university Credits of the KANIYA Scholars. This option is particularly suitable for us if the tuition fees are to be paid in USD.

2. If the tuition fees are to be paid in LBP, we will transfer the money via OMT, exchange it into LBP in Lebanon and pay it directly to the university through our local KANIYA network in Lebanon.

Who are the people behind the project?

We, Paul, Isabel and Oskar, are friends who have known each other since university. Apart from being friends we share the same concern: The current situation in Lebanon and its repercussions upon the society. Since we have had the privilege of being able to complete our university carreer, we want to enable other students to do so as well. Because we believe everyone deserves this possibility, everyone deserves to have access to education in order to become their own actor of change.
