In my project "Let There Be Water" (WT) I want to tell the story about the NGO Fontes Foundation in Uganda.
Fontes is a small Norwegian NGO working in water and education projects in Uganda. As you might know there are a lot of NGOs worldwide that focus on water projects. But did you know that most of projects fail in the first three years?
In February 2014, Fontes' water project in Katunguru-Rubirizi runs for ten years and is the oldest water project they have.
Fontes follows a remarkable strategy: With their little budget they don't spread their money throughout the region but to focus on a few projects. They teach and support the regional communities and involve them into their work. Their goal is clear: To make a difference not just for now, but also for the future.
That's why (in 2011) Fontes, next to their water projects, also started the Potentiam Youth Centre to fight the high unemployment rate belong the youth of Uganda.
I think their work is fantastic. This february, I want to make a film in Uganda: On the one hand about Fontes, on the other hand about the challenges and the achievements of this small NGO in East-Africa.
My goal is to create an authentic and informative film about the work of an NGO in a developing country.
This film is about developing an understanding: About Fontes, about the importance and problems of their work. This story should show the real situation including its hopeful and disillusional aspects.
I guess I'm speaking for the majority if I say that I just have a basic knowledge of the work of an NGO in Africa. Sure, I heard a lot about them on TV or on the internet. But do I really have an understanding for their work and what they need the money for?
I want to find the answer to these questions first hand and make a 20-minute-film about it.
This film should give an insight: Into Fontes and into Uganda.
Every penny/cent you spend is going into the production of this film.
I don't make any money with this film. The sum above just covers the basic costs that I have throughout the production of this film: Travelling, Food, Medical Support etc. I don't use any of this money to buy equipment or outside of the process to finish this project.
Filming takes place in february. I think I'm gonna be done with the post production around June/July because the post-production is delayed due to other trips I planned before.
Fontes works entirely from their office in Kampala. Apart from two voluntary European coordinators, their staff is completely from Uganda. So all the money someone donates to Fontes, stays in Uganda.
My name is Sven Kämmerer. I'm 25 years old, born and raised in Hamburg (Germany). After studying the B.A. Media Studies at University of Siegen and (for one year) the B.A. Screen and Media Production at the Griffith Film School in Brisbane (Australia), I'm now living in Cologne and work on professional film sets. Also, I follow my own little projects and create short films, music videos or little campaign clips for companies.
For me, this project is something I want to accomplish from the bottom of my heart. Upon me lies the opportunity to offer an insight into a foreign culture and into a great organization. I want to tell their story.
