With your support, we want to give women, especially those affected by sexualised violence and human trafficking, a hopeful future. We want to encourage them to regain their self-confidence and to take control of their lives again.
We, the atman project in cooperation with the Justice Project, accompany women of all backgrounds on their way to a more hopeful future after experiencing violence and trauma. Stabilising individual sessions, weekend and night availability of specialised therapists and the atman team are vital for the women and their children. Strengthening them, giving them hope and the opportunity to overcome trauma, in a community where they feel safe and supported, which catches them, so that they gain new courage and self-confidence - that is our vision.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
The central goal of the atman Institute is to offer traumatised refugees and migrants (especially women who have experienced violence) rapid help through individual therapeutic settings and support, so that they can develop self-efficacy and a hopeful perspective on life. This is also how integration succeeds!
Our target group is refugees and migrants who were traumatized during their flight or in their home country and now live in Germany. Often people in the asylum process or with a tolerated stay do not get approved for therapeutic support. Due to language barriers, it is also difficult for migrants to accept regular therapeutic support. Here, our project offers initial assistance with a team of specialised therapists, social pedagogues and trained cultural mediators.
Why would you support this project?
Up to now, there have been no quick therapeutic offers or assistance for the affected women. We want to close this gap with our special project.
We want to help women who have been exposed to cruel violence and oppression to free themselves from the structures of human trafficking. Until now, they have been living here, but not among or even with us. They are invisible to many, their fates remain hidden from us. It is an imperative of humanity to help trafficked persons out of the darkness of their traumas, to restore their faith in the good, in life and in togetherness.
Trauma that has not been dealt with can be inherited into the third generation and can significantly impair integration and the way back into society. We therefore consider our work relevant for an open society as well.
Our clients about us:
"What I learned with you still helps me when everything else overwhelms me".
"I felt that someone cares!"
"I slept for 6 hours the first time since 4 years"
"Chaque fois que je suis ici, je ressens de la joie. Tu es mon aide quand je ne peux plus"
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
The donated money will be used for individual therapeutic sessions for stabilisation in acute cases. Our freelance therapists work partly on a voluntary basis or with very low fees below the standard rate for our clients with a human trafficking background. However, even these low fees can unfortunately no longer be guaranteed for our special target group as of 2021.
Who are the people behind the project?
Our project is a joint project of the atman Institute of the fka - Freundeskreis Asyl Karlsruhe e.V. and the Justice Projects e.V..
We are a dedicated team of social pedagogues, specialised therapists and cultural mediators who accompany these mostly very difficult cases with a lot of love and patience. The motivation for our work is to stand up for human rights. By assisting women and their children in the difficult first period after leaving trafficking, we follow our vision. With low-threshold group offers and therapeutic individual sessions, we try to use the different talents in our team for the women.
In order to continue to provide individual sessions and maintain weekend availability for acute cases, we need your support starting in the spring of 2021!
