The money will be used for the rent of the land, the acquisition of a large polytunnel and for an irrigation system.
Modern industrial agriculture has played a great role in the degradation of soils, contamination of ecosystems, and the loss of biodiversity. This doesn't have to be like that: local agriculture in cooperation with nature, instead of against it, is possible and necessary!
We started this project with the vision to develop this piece of land near Bonn into a thriving vegetable production in the spirit of market gardening and by principles of permaculture.
That means: Intensive cultivation of veggies as natural as possible - local, organic, and healthy!
The current garden plot will be extended to 2500 sqm by the next year, which will allow us to provide for around 50 households in the Bonn area with fresh, locally produced vegetables.
Apart from the veggie production, we also aim to build up humus in the soil and provide a habitat for animals.
This project, as well as the vegetables, is for everyone who cares about food that is produced locally and sustainably. It aims at those who are interested in how food is produced instead of just opting for the cheapest option.
The transformation of the agricultural sector is an urgent topic, which has to be addressed now. With your support, we get a step closer to a better supply of locally produced veggies. Our way of cultivation provides living spaces for small animals and insects and helps to build up the soil, which is going to be climate-positive in the long run.
A part of the money will be used for the rent of the garden plot (2500€). Additionally, we will invest in a polytunnel for the cultivation of veggies that need warmer temperatures, such as tomatoes, pepper, and cucumbers (≈2000€).
Another important investment is going to be the purchase of a basic irrigation system (≈1000€) and compost (800€).
The construction of a small shed for garden tools (≈300€) and a washing station (≈500€) is planned as well as the acquisition of essential gardening equipment (≈1200€).
The main initiator of the project is Leo. He studied agriculture in Bonn and has cultivated vegetables for a couple of years now. Since 2021 he's been starting to grow on a bigger scale and sell weekly veggie boxes.
Natalia helps with gardening work and also takes care of PR and marketing.
