Crowdfunding since 2010

---HERE IS AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION FOR OUR INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS---(Part 1)
Hello, we are the founders of PILZKISTE, Jasmin Kabir, Mercedes Springer ansd Nina Bercko. PILZKISTE (Box of Mushrooms)
is a mushroom farming business in the city of Graz, Austria. We harvest oyster mushrooms planted in used coffee grounds. The coffee grounds that come from the coffee consumption in Graz alone is just over 13.000 lbs(=6.000 kg) per day(!).

(Part 2)
Much too often the used coffee grounds get thrown out; into the residual waste.
And this is where we come in! PILZKISTE wants to breathe new life into those coffee grounds, since they still contain 99% of their nutrients. We collect the sterile future breeding ground of our oyster mushrooms from restaurants and cafés.
Coffee has a long way to travel to Graz, so it would be a shame to throw it out after using it just once for that cup of coffee which only uses 1% of the nutrients.

(Part 3)
We mix the already sterile coffee grounds with calcium and coffee skins to create a perfect growing medium for our oyster mushrooms. After we harvest the last of our mushrooms the remaining coffee grounds are spread on fields by farmers that are happy to get this nutrient rich, natural fertilizer from us.
So the precious and far traveled coffee that came from soil, served us with a delicious cup, a tasty meal and then travels back in the soil to leave its mark again.

(Part 4)
It is a best case scenario for a full-circle ecological lifecycle and uses the valuable coffee to its fullest potential, no waste.
PILZKISTE stands for long lasting and sustainable economizing and when you buy locally, not only are you buying fresher, healthier products, your money is circulating within your own community. It's a win-win!
Freshly harvested, the delicious and healthy oyster mushrooms are ready to be sold on farmers markets, local health food stores and restaurants.

(Part 5)
Cooking oyster mushrooms is also a delight. Together with local chefs we are developing the most delicious and creative recipes. Maybe in the future we will make recipes together?

If you have any further questions or need help with supporting us, please don´t hesitate to contact us via facebook.com/pilzkiste or [email protected].
THANK YOU FOR HELPING US MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE!
Love, Jasmin, Mercedes & Nina! <3
