David Bloom

Deutschland / Berlin

Hello. I’m David Bloom. I mostly make dance pieces. I also enjoy teaching, dancing in other folks’ projects, giving bodywork, telling fortunes, & making music.
I was born in Heidelberg, Germany, to a family from Brooklyn, NY. Now I live in Berlin.I received my dance education mostly at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main, where my teachers included Dieter Heitkamp, Marc Spradling, Nora Kimball & José Biondi.
I was also very much influenced & inspired by workshops with William Forsythe, Kirstie Simson, & Benoit Lachambre. In addition to my dancing practice, I enjoy practicing yoga & Shotokan Karate, & am a graduate of Barbara Carellas’ “Urban Tantra” Training Program.
I’ve been a member of the dance ensemble at the Staatstheater Darmstadt directed by Mei Hong Lin, & have participated in projects by choreographers such as Marco Santi, Michaël d’Auzon, Nir de Volff/Total Brutal, Micha Purucker, Ingo Reulecke, Canan Erek, Friederike Plafki & Felix Ruckert.
I’ve also been playing the piano professionally for about 16 years, including a brief stint at the bar Marie’s Crisis in NYC.
Since graduating from the M.A. Choreography course at HZT Berlin, I’ve been focusing mainly on my own work, including enemy, an interactive sauna dance piece, & most recently, the dance film Quintet – a choreo-pornographic experiment.
I was the happy recipient of a 2012 danceWEB scholarship, & enjoy collecting tea, comic books, tattoos, & anything elvish.
