What is this project all about?
>> schlaraffen. country of milk and honey - A party as a
utopian space of experience
Over Europe a net grids: Young, independent theatre producers and performers test new approaches and formats and pull their threads across states and aesthetic borders to the festival transeuropa2012 in Hildesheim. For the seventh time the city serves as an interchange to all those, who produce courageous theatre, absorb, discuss and investigate. Guest performances from Iceland, Portugal and Lithuania, an European flat-sharing community, utopian and ordinary spaces interlink from the 12th till 19th of May 2012 to a fluorescent fabric, a cord leader between the gap of the stage and the spectator's rows. Besides, the main focus of transeuropa2012 is the question how people gather today.
For the residency >>schlaraffen. country of milk and honey, we were looking for a group of young artists who develop a format and achieve a climax throughout the festival week. A staged party should originate from artistic elements of performance, music and dance.
„How does one create the country into where milk and honey flow? Where is the border between performances and parties? How does one night develop into an utopian place of experiences of a festival community?“
It’s getting closer now : at the end of April 7 artists will arrive from Lisbon to live within the scope of >>schlaraffen in Hildesheim for three weeks, to develop the format and to set it right throughout the festival week, on the 16th of May. The group „Há. Que. Dizê. Lo“, that could be translated as „It must be said!“, who until now concentrated their work on their homecountry Portugal will now expand in the north.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
With >>schlaraffen we want to give the group
"Há.Que.Dizê.Lo" the opportunity to create a special format and
have their opening night at the festival transeuropa2012 in
Hildesheim. The festival is proposing a meeting for European
theatre artists, that will affect all participants not only in an
inspiring and crosslinking way, but also promotes the idea of
>>schlaraffen is intended to be a highlight during the festival week to all visitors of transeuropa2012. It’s particularly interesting for people, who like to go to partys and only had little experiences with performances previously. As a specially developed residency for transeuropa2012 >>schlaraffen will gather a night full of surprises.
Why would you support this project?
„As we started thinking about >>schlaraffen and
Utopia, we found so many things to share, so much to talk about, so
many songs to dance to, so many cocktails to drink, dresses to
wear, mouths to kiss. May our voices sound strange to German ears.
Strange as only Utopia can be“ (extract from the application
With this project you support a major piece of the festival, that devoted itself to the exchange of the independent, european theatre scene and networking of young, international theatre artists since its foundation in 1993. Over four generations, students experienced or worked on behalf of the festival. For festival managers of transeuropa the task changes every three years : provide a completely new festival, form a team, look for new places in Hildesheim and apply for funding.
With your support we can make utopian experiences like >>schlaraffen possible and bring European theatre communities closer together!
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
The seven artists flying in from Portugal, will live in an apartment and work on the format for three weeks. In addition to accommodation and an office, they receive a production budget and an assistant for the coordination of the project. With the money that we’re trying to raise, we will be able to create all the opportunities that a format like >>schlaraffen has to offer.
Who are the people behind the project?
>>schlaraffen was created as an international call of
applications from the team of transeuropa2012.
