Komm an Bord, wir bauen einen UMIAK, ein Boot der Inuit!

Umiak - Was ist das? Der Umiak ist ein Boot, das die Inuitvölker zum Transport, zur Jagd oder zum Verwandtenbesuch nutzten. Aufgrund der knappen Ressourcen in der Polarregion besteht es aus einer leichten Rahmenkonstruktion aus vor Ort verfügbaren Materialien, die mit Haut bespannt wurde. Dieses Prinzip möchten wir, 8 neue Umiakis, auf unser Lebensumfeld anwenden: Wir bauen in Hamburg-Altona einen Umiak und 2013 werden wir diese Bootsbauweise durch eine Reise in den Norden ausprobieren.
