This amount will enable us to build a beautiful set, as well as produce and ship the perks.
This secondary goal will allow us to add more details and visual flourishes, as well as cover part of our printing costs for posters and programmes.
English Theatre Leipzig presents David Auburn’s Proof (2000), a play about maths, mental illness, and family tensions. Catherine, the daughter of a brilliant mathematician, had to put her plans to study on hold while she cared for her father, Robert, who suffered from mental illness at the end of his life.
Now, with her father deceased, Catherine is confronted with her sister Claire, who has plans of her own for Catherine, and her father’s student Hal, who is working his way through all of Robert’s notebooks to find any remnants of the genius he once was. Until a proof turns up that could revolutionise the world of mathematics - if it is indeed real.
The goal is to build a believable and impressive set, to take the audience into suburban Chicago and captivate them from the moment they set foot into the theatre.
So we call upon all theatre lovers, patrons of the arts, Anglophiles, and supporters of English Theatre Leipzig and Neues Schauspiel Leipzig to help us create something truly special.
It is our mission to bring quality English-language theatre to Leipzig and Leipzig into the theatre, so our shows are produced and put on entirely by volunteers ranging from professionals to first-timers.
By supporting us, you're enabling us to continue on this path, help realize the production of what we are sure will be an amazing show, and by extension also support our home theatre, Neues Schauspiel Leipzig, which has been a reliable partner of ETL since the very beginning.
The collected donations will go toward the production of Proof, first and foremost scenery and props (with a small portion allocated for production and shipping of perks). Since the plan is to go for a very detailed and realistic design, we have a primary goal that would allow us to build a beautiful set.
The secondary goal would enable us to dress it up even more with details and visual flourishes, as well as cover part of the printing costs for posters and programmes.

English Theatre Leipzig was founded by a group of theatre enthusiasts and professionals in 2013. After some fits and starts, we’ve settled into a rhythm of three productions per year, all hosted by our wonderful home theatre, Neues Schauspiel Leipzig. We have finally managed to wade through all the paperwork and are now registered as an official non-profit association (e.V.) dedicated to the furtherance of English theatre appreciation in Leipzig.
In addition to presenting our three productions a year (to which you are all heartily welcome) we are looking forward to spreading our love of treading the boards to more people in our beautiful city. We will be doing this through theatre-based workshops and other community outreach programs. Although English naturally tends to be our working language, we welcome all individuals regardless of their background.
If you would like to be a part of this exciting future, then please consider becoming a member, either as an active part of our theatre production community or as a supporting member of the association, which will give you an inside track on all upcoming events. You will find an application form on our website.
