This will cover the vinyl production costs. Not included are the costs for music production and promotion.
What kind of strange creatures are those human beings, that lovingly raise children and at the same time ruin the planet they live on? The theme of our new album Creatures can be summarized this way. Some of the songs go back years, but were never recorded because of their complexity and ambition.
Our previous albums were DIY-productions, recorded in rehearsal rooms and flats. We fully recorded in a studio for the first time for our 2021 EP Somewhere Between. Working with Cameron Laing in the studio The Famous Gold Watch was such a good experience that soon after, we began working on Creatures with him in order to finally give those songs the sound they deserved. We are proud of the result and think that this music works best on physical media. That's why, as we did with Somewhere Between, we'd like to press it on vinyl.
Our goal with this album was to create music unheard before. More than just a collection of songs, Creatures is thematic journey, an artistic statement. Unfortunately, this doesn't quite match today's listening habits and short attention spans that have evolved after the rise of music-streaming. Of course, we will also release the music digitally. But we are convinced that listeners will have the best experience when listening to Creatures on vinyl or CD.
You will like Grizzly Bird's sound if you're a fan of handmade, personal music, no matter if it's current folk artists like Fleet Foxes and José Gonzalez, or classic prog albums by Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull.
An album like Creatures isn't just years of work, it also costs a ton of money. After composing, arranging and rehearsing comes studio time, mixing and mastering, production of physical media, royalties and ideally you still have some money left for promotion, so people end up listening to what you created. This is contrasted by the fact that listening to music costs almost nothing on streaming services and artists receive almost nothing in return.
With your support through this crowdfunding, you provide us with the possibility to pay some of those bills. You will also get the privilege to listen to Creatures and hold it in your hands before anyone else.
Creatures is already mixed and mastered. With this crowdfunding we will finance the vinyl production. Anything exceeding this primary goal will be an enormous help in promoting the album and making music videos, so as many people as possible will be able to listen to this music.
Grizzly Bird is songwriter and guitar player Hans Gnendinger, Nils Wenzel on bass and Florian Dietrich on drums. Creatures also features many gests like Carlos Cipa, Lotta St. Joan und Lisa Akuah.
