Crowdfunding finished
Most of childcare in Austria is done by by the mother in the first years of life. But there is an option! This option is to be published in an artistic photo book, which is both practical and with varieties. The focus of the book “Mutter Vaterkarenz Kind” is on fathers, who have dared to take action in child care work. The texts in the book will be in German.

Project description show hide

What is this project all about?

The photographer Katharina Fröschl-Roßboth and her husband decided to share parental leave after the birth of their first child. So the father took time off from work too to do the child care and the never-ending homework.

With the return to work, the photographer started a self-experiment: She watched father and son without interfering. She took pictures of them in their everyday life and documented a period in which the father-child relationship was particularly strengthened. And she took pictures of more fathers and their children during their parental leave and interviewed them.

The collected photo material is to be published in the book "Mutter Vaterkarenz Kind". Besides her photos, parental leave-diary-tweets by Peter Sim and a prologue specially written for the project by Sibylle Hamann shall be added. And the interviews with the fathers may – of course – not be missing!

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The goal is to produce a book with an edition of 500 copies. The format of the book is approx. 16 x 23cm, hardcover, approx. 120 pages. The texts will be in German.

The photographs in the book were taken as part of Katharina Fröschl-Roßboth's artistic activity. Accordingly, a high-quality photo book is emphasized to fit in the art book market.

However, the content will be practical and the book should inspire and motivate (expectant) parents.

The book is also recommended to people and institutions who work with parents – be it in childbirth preparation, childcare or in the form of a counseling facility. Because the perspective of the book makes it something outstanding in the sea of family literature.

In addition, we would like the book to reach employers and also people, who are not directly related to the topic of parenting or childcare, because it gives – in an appealing and varied manner – insights into the everyday life of parenting people. A topic often forgotten by media.

Why would you support this project?

The production of high quality art books is expensive; correspondingly high are usually the sales prices. The book „Mutter Vaterkarenz Kind” should be affordable for a broad target group (see above).

As with many projects, pre-financing is a major challenge with this book: Without a pre-sale, revenue will only be generated over time. However, the budget for design, layout, printing and binding must be available in advance.

With the support of the crowd – with your support – we would like to raise the financial resources required at the time of production, by offering a presale of the book via this platform.

But it's not just about asking for money. The idea of a crowdfunding campaign is much more than that: We also want to spread the message of the book: also men can do the care work for small children in a wonderful way!

How can you support the project?

  • by purchasing a book „Mutter Vaterkarenz Kind” via the startnext-page*
  • by a symoblic support via the startnext-page*
  • by purchasing any other/ additional reward*
  • by active communication, e.g. talking about the project idea, sharing the link to this page, or by liking our social media posts.

We are grateful for any support!

Please consider: Rewards will only be sent if a procet is "successful" (= reaches its start level). If the project is not successful, every single supporter gets the money back.

* Still questions? Check the FAQ of startnext.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

Startlevel – 3.400 €: If this level is achieved, the project is "successful". For you this means: the rewards can be distributed!

For us it means: In addition to the basic financing, we do have enough money to realize the project. The graphic designer Mato Vincetić can finalize the design of the book!

The money goes into:

  • Design and layout of the book “Mutter Vaterkarenz Kind”
  • Printing and binding of the book in an edition of 500 copies
  • Production of rewards, e.g. prints
  • Packaging and shipping of rewards
  • startnext-fees (5% transaction fee+commission)

Thankfully, Peter Sim and Sibylle Hamann provide their work free of charges.

Desired level – 5.500 €: The production of an outstanding book, requires additional budget for:

  • Editing
  • "Fine tuning of the pictures"
  • Marketing and presentation of the book

To reach this level with your support is our greatest wish!

But of course, more money is even better, because what we could not take into account so far, are any costs for the equipment used and time spent by the photographer.

All levels above 8.900 € are overwhelming-happiness-levels!

Who are the people behind the project?

The project initiator is the photographer Katharina Fröschl-Roßboth.

Being photographer, artist and mother is challenging enough. This is why the crowdfunding campaign is supported by her sister Theresa Roßboth.

The book will be published by Verlag für Moderne Kunst, Vienna. After publishing, the book may be obtained from bookstores.
