Berlin without SIEGESSÄULE magazine? Unthinkable! The queer magazine has been a fixture of Berlin's LGBTI* community since 1984. To keep SIEGESSÄULE alive, we need your help now! The magazine and its publishing house live mostly from the advertisements for events, culture, gastronomy and trade in every issue. This advertising has been massively restricted due to cancellations and closures. Thus, SIEGESSÄULE is in a threatening financial situation due to the Corona crisis.

What is this project all about?

SIEGESSÄULE is a queer city magazine made with high journalistic standards, independent of major publishers or political interests. It has been published monthly and free of charge for over 30 years and is available at over 650 outlets in Berlin. The readers learn about cultural offers and events and see their own, often non-visible reality of life. For organisations and projects, SIEGESSÄULE is a critical companion, multiplier and committed supporter.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

We address our loyal readers, advertising customers, queer supporters and institutions nationwide. SIEGESSÄULE will continue to be published every month and will survive the Corona crisis as a queer mouthpiece and independent journalistic project.

Why would you support this project?

SIEGESSÄULE is a unique media and cultural asset in Europe, which for many queer Berliners represents a very personal piece of their own emancipation history - a firm and often hotly debated part of the Berlin lifestyle. SIEGESSÄULE represents the queer concerns of Berlin, which are often underrepresented, and actively contributes to the media diversity and visibility of LGBTI*.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The money will be used to compensate for the loss of income caused by advertising cancellations and event cancellations and to continue to print the magazine, pay fees and salaries and keep the magazine and the publishing house behind it alive.

Who are the people behind the project?

SIEGESSÄULE has a circulation of at least 50,000 issues per month and an estimated 100,000 readers. The magazine is made by a dedicated team that comes from the LGBTI* community itself. It is published by Special Media SDL, independently managed by two former editors of the magazine.
We would like to thank the "2020Solidarity" campaign organised by Wolfgang Tillmans and “Between Bridges“. They curated seventeen artists' works, some of them exclusive, some of which were designed by Berlin-based and international artists especially for this campaign.
