Crowdfunding finished
The Festival of Animation Berlin (FAB) annually presents the best animated films in both regional and international categories. Filmmakers from Berlin and from around the world thereby have an opportunity to associate with like-minded people, as well as to connect with an audience that admires and appreciates their work. With this campaign we aim to realize the 3rd edition of the festival in autumn 2019.

What is this project all about?

The festival aspires not only to promote numerous filmmakers but also to pay tribute to the art of animation. As a platform where inspiration, creative exchange, innovation and communication come together it seeks to create a point of connection between both emerging and established fimmakers and local audience.

Beside film screenings the festival offers a side events program rich in variety built around the beautiful world of animation film. With versatile program items we want to encourage both our visitors and filmmakers to engage and discover the animation industry.

The second edition of the festival took place on three days at three central Berlin venues: Zeiss-Großplanetarium, die WABE and Theater unterm Dach (TuD). Besides seven competition categories, including Berlin, German, international and 360° animation competitions, we offered our visitors a versatile side programme for all ages. Workshops, masterclasses, a panel discussion, a live concert as well as short and feature film specials thus attracted not only numerous industry professionals but many families and animation enthusiasts as well. The diversified program was rounded out by morning coffee circles with filmmakers of the competitions, an opening party, the award ceremony and our dear special guests from studio TRUBA, who designed and produced our official festival trailer 2018.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

Conservative or eccentric, for young and old - Animation film are a special form of art that has something to offer for everybody! Our short film screenings aim to present the whole variety of artistic animation film and open up a dialogue between filmmakers and audience.

This year we are planning to set up a one-day edition of FAB2019 with various competition screenings and a series of side events.

The following competition categories are in planning for 2019's edition:
- German Animation Film
- International Animation Film
- Pink Panda - Animation for Kids

As a special guest we are pleased to welcome indie animation director Roberto Biadi, who designed the festival trailer 2019 and will present his work in a special screening during FAB2019.

Why would you support this project?

Last year the festival took place on three days at three central Berlin venues. Besides film screening we offered a rich side program to encourage our visitors to fully emerge in the world of animation.

The ability to achieve those dimensions for a FAB edition was only made possible with the help of public funding, that unfortunately is not available for us this year.

It would be a pity if we could not continue our festival after two years of such great response and feedback by our visitors and fans. But even with the help of numerous volunteers it is quite impossible to set up this festival without any financial means. Your support will enable us to at least set up a one-day festival event, presenting a program with a variety of animation films and animation related side events. Your financial support helps us to preserve and expand building up a platform for Berlin animators and filmmakers, helps to promote German animation artists and strengthens the overall animation industry at international level.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The raised funding will entirely be spend on organizing the festival event. Areas of spending are e.g. rental fees for locations and technical equipment, print media like posters and program booklets, promotional means to spread the word and find even more people interested in our festival and a huge variety of other big and small things helping to make the festival as bright, colorful and appealing as possible!

Who are the people behind the project?

The initiators Pia Djukic and Daniel Demele successfully organized the first edition of Festival of Animation Berlin back in 2017. Meanwhile the team consists of some 10 permanent team members who are meeting on a regular basis to plan, organize and implement FABs events. Additionally there are numerous animation fans engaging in various planning areas before and during the event.

We are cooperating with various organisations, studios, educational institutions, event organisers, artists and filmmakers and are well connected with the German animation industry. The number of our cooperation parters is constantly growing, confirming the assumption we have hit a special nerve with our festival project thus encouraging more and more people to engage and invest their time in an awesome, expandable project together with us.
