FotoDoks is all about exchange and discussion; about bringing people together and thinking and talking about photography.
For each festival in addition to German speaking positions a respectively changing partner country or region is invited and an according festival theme is discussed: this year, from October 13th to 18th the seven countries of former Yugoslavia are visiting and we are reflecting the theme "Past is Now": in a comprehensive festival program with talks, round table discussions, guided tours, workshops and screenings.
And with a group exhibition at the Stadtmuseum, the City Museum of Munich, where we show a wide range of contemporary positions in documentary photography.
All works will be published in a festival catalogue, which contains additional texts and thoughts by various authors and the exhibiting photographers. For the first time in the FotoDoks history the exhibition and catalogue are going to travel through the partner region in 2016, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut.
In cooperation with our designers we try to experiment and find new ways of translating the exhibition into a printed medium.
Our catalogues in 2011 and 2012 were for example designed by Mirko Borsche. For the partner region Italy and the theme „Incredibile“ it was all about the media’s craving for sensation - and for the region Great Britain and the theme „Achtung“ we referred to the "yellow press" and decided on a newspaper format. In 2013 Martin Steiner developed a concept for the region "The North" that proverbially turned around the "Stranger World" of documentary photography.
For the FotoDoks catalogue 2015 we will mix up past and present and include works of the following exhibiting photographers:
Jaka Babnik, Roman Bezjak, Collaboration-project, Jörg Gläscher, Ziyah Gafić, Ibro Hasanović, Tanja Kernweiss, Borut Krajnc, Saša Krajl, Tom Licht, Anne Morgenstern, Vladimir Miladinović, Merlin Nadj-Toma, Dragan Petrović, Hrvoje Slovenc, Katja Stuke & Oliver Sieber, Michael Wesely.
