Jack London nutzte seine Lebenszeit tatsächlich intensiv. Vermutlich zu intensiv, denn schon mit 40 Jahren starb er 1916 auf seiner Ranch im kalifornischen Glen Elen. Trotz seines Alkoholismus, trotz der Folgen zahlreicher Erkrankungen hatte er bis zuletzt in einem fast fieberhaften Eifer zahlreiche Bücher geschrieben, die bis heute seinen Ruhm begründen und ihn zum Übervater des nature writings machen, den Jürgen Seul abseits aller Klischees neu entdeckt und zugänglich macht.
