January 10, 2017 will mark 90 years since the epic silent film METROPOLIS had its brilliant Berlin premiere. The original cinema in which it was screened, the UFA Palast am Zoo, does not exist any more. There is only one cinema in Berlin that exists from the silent era to the present day without interruption as film theatre: the BABYLON, built in 1929 by Hans Poelzig one of the most important architects of this time.
The legendary METROPOLIS premiere in 1927 was a social event that many celebrities, such as Foreign Minister Gustav Stresemann attended. With our Reload we want to bring back the flair of the golden 20s in BABYLON, Berlin Mitte. The audience can choose to dress up in the 20s style, with fitting makeup, and clothes.
Your support will enable the new METROPOLIS ORCHESTRA BERLIN an exclusive debut. With your help, we can revive the lost tradition of the Berlin theatre orchestra in the silent film era.
Cost of the theatre rent, advertising, musician fees, film rights, music and editing rights, technical equipment, etc. would be financed. So your support would be used for all costs involved in this project.
