One man's garden is another man's house

The exhibition titled “One man's garden is another man's house”, which will take place on May 31 and June 23, 2013 at 7pm at Kugelbahn/ Kolonie Wedding, aims to explore the notion of appearance and disappearance throughout the surroundings of the Kugelbahn.
Our performance and exhibition location, Kolonie Wedding, is situated near the Berlin Wall, which today is used as a local recreation area.
The building itself, a sort of pavilion, is located near the animated Osloer Straße. In its early years the building was a bar with a bowling alley in the basement. Now it is a café with its own gallery and venue.
The first part of developing this work will happen through silent walks in and around Kolonie Wedding. Residents of the area will be invited to join us. We will capture our surroundings through field recordings, drawings, photos, video recordings and our memory. We will also interview residents in the area on the abstract subject of appearance and disappearance.
These materials will then become the basis for our performances on May 31 (Vernissage) and on June 23 (Finissage) 2013. During this performance we will bring the stories, sounds, movements and textures inside the Kugelbahn, by using documentation, pencil drawings, chalk, watercolor, movements of the body, field recordings, and live music.
The aim of the performance is to transform the appearance and disappearance of lines, sounds, movements and atmosphere from the location.
At the end of the exhibition period, the Kugelbahn will return to its normal form. Overwriting our traces until everything is how it was or perhaps never was.

After the performance at the Finissage there will be a conversation with the audience on the theme of appearance and reappearance.

Our aim for this project is to model our work and methodology in and around Kolonie Wedding as an interdisciplinary performance for the residents living in that area of Berlin.
The performance will be inspired by the concept of appearance and disappearance, and will be shaped by material found in and around the venue’s surroundings.
Once we have gathered these materials we will rearrange, break, and reinforce the audience’s attention through interactions and improvisations between the members of possible.movement.
In order to achieve this we want to include the participation of any residents who express interest in our project.
The exchange between the performers and the public is of the utmost importance, as it will reflect transformational processes of the venues surroundings, as well as showing different possibilities between the performers and the audience.
