Berlin is to be treated to a fresh and exciting addition to the on-going 2010-12 Mahler celebrations with an 8-concert series exploring Mahler and the chamber ensemble.

Berlin’s finest young soloists are on a mission to re-discover Mahler.

Never been done before, this is your chance to hear and learn about Mahler’s music from a whole new perspective. Through the chamber ensemble, we'll explore fascinating themes and arrangements to present a unique sound-world to Berlin.

Heading the three-part series is 'ensemble mini', bringing together young chamber musicians from around Europe to present some not-to-be-missed programmes in the incredible acoustics of Philharmonie's Kammermusiksaal.

mini-Mahler focuses on the relationship between Mahler and 1920s Vienna, which saw contemporary works arranged for the intimate setting of Schönberg’s Private Musical Society. Covering much of Mahler’s output, the series is to include 3 symphonies and all of his orchestral song cycles, including world premiere commissions of arrangements of 9th Symphony and Wunderhorn songs. Each programme is to explore:

• Mahler and the chamber ensemble
• Mahler and Schönberg’s private musical society
• Mahler and the music of the ‘Second Viennese School’
• Mahler, Schönberg and their links to Judaism and America

In this new and exciting eight-concert series, we offer you Mahler with a difference.
