With the project Sana Mare we want to make a contribution against the littering of the ocean. We want to raise awareness and collect as much garbage as possible before it ends up in the ocean To this end we conduct beach cleanups all over Europe. With educational programmes for children and young people, we would like to sensitise young people in particular to the topic of littering and marine protection. In this way we can make a long-term contribution to the protection of the ocean.

What is this project all about?

We want to fight the littering of the ocean. To do this, we must bring about a change in human behaviour. Education and raising awareness are the keys. That is why we want to organise at least 365 coastal cleanups annually throughout Europe from 2021 onwards. We will also offer educational programmes in schools to increase the undersanding of the importance of the ocean and the need for marine protection by the younger generation.
In recent months, we have already organised cleanups in Germany and Portugal. We have also developed an education concept for children and teenagers. We have already been able to test it with two groups. The concept consists of a combination of age-appropriate, interactive learning and sensitisation through documentation of littering in one's own district. In the coming years we would like to carry out many such actions and extend them to the whole of Europe. The aim of these educational programmes is to make children and young people aware of the need to protect the oceans and to awaken their fascination for the ocean. Only if future generations protect the ocean better than previous generations have done, we can safe the ocean.
You can find out more about our actions and news about our project on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/sanamare.organisation.com

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

It is our goal to raise awareness of the importance of the ocean and the destruction of the ocean. We also want to remove as much waste as possible from Europe's coasts and shores before it ends up in the ocean. That is why our goal is to conduct at least 365 coastal cleanups across Europe by 2021. These cleanups are open to everyone. From the middle of 2020 we would like to offer regular educational programmes for children and young people in cooperation with schools and kindergartens. Our aim here is to address the young generation. Because today's children are tomorrow's marine conservationists.

Why would you support this project?

We all depend on a healthy ocean. The ocean is

  • Food source,
  • Oxygen producer,
  • Raw material supplier,
  • Air conditioning of the planet,
  • Recreation room,
  • Energy source
  • Economic factor,
  • beautiful,
  • the home of millions of animal and plant species.

With a donation for our project you help us to carry out many cleanups at and in the water and thus to protect the ocean. With your help we can also professionally develop and carry out our educational projects. In this way we can raise a generation that looks much better after the ocean than previous generations have.

SO if you support our project, we can carry out a project to
1) collect rubbish from the beache of Europe
2) raise awareness for the issue of marine littering
3) make the children of today the ocean conservationists of tomorrow.

The Krombach Naturstarter will increase your donation by 25%. So the more you donate, the more we will receive on top from the Krombacher Naturstarter.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

We need the money to organize and run events. The cost of organizing a cleanup is about 50€. The costs are caused by

  • Material,
  • Advertising,
  • Travel expenses
  • Waste disposal charges.

We will use the first 1000€ of the money collected here for the organisation and implementation of coastal cleanups and children and youth programmes. If we receive more than 1000€, we will invest part of the money in further fundraising and member recruitment. This is necessary in order to be able to carry out our project on a long-term basis.
Therefore we invest in

  • Advertising,
  • Further fundraising,
  • Tax and legal advice,
  • Public relations,
  • Membership acquisition.
Who are the people behind the project?

Our association has so far eight members and project partners in Germany and Portugal. My name is Lucas and I am an oceanographer and chairman of the association. I have lived in Portugal for a long time and watched the marine litter helplessly. From experience I know that in many European countries the environmental awareness is much less pronounced than in Germany. In my opinion, the environmental education project is therefore important in order to eliminate the problem in a sustainable way. At the moment I am also working as a teacher in Hamburg and I am already running a school project on the subject of plastic waste in the ocean. I would now like to expand this project and carry it out at many schools and other institutions.
My project partner in Portugal is Luciano. He is also an oceanographer and diving instructor. He never gets tired of explaining the problems to his students.
