As ZIMMT e.V. we are transforming a former crane hall in Leipzig into a Center for Immersive Media Art, Music and Technology. There we bring 3D audio technology together with artistic practice and research, create a place for innovative projects, exchange and events. There is just one important step missing to reach our goal: a building request as well as the complying measures for fire and safety protection. For this we need the required inspections, plans, material – and your support!
ZiMMT is a gallery, production space, concert hall, research lab and network all in one.
At ZiMMT, we provide the appropriate stage for the many facets of media immersion and a place for creative experimentation. As one of only a few cultural institutions nationwide, ZIMMT has an innovative 3D audio system consisting of 36 loudspeakers. This provides the future opportunity to develop and present immersive, space-consuming concerts, exhibitions and performances. In addition to the interdisciplinary exchange of artists and developers, we are particularly interested in the transfer of knowledge and workshops.
What happened so far: We have renovated the former crane hall from the ground up, installed a heating system, painted, laid electricity, installed speakers, organized seating, built a bar and much more. All this we have so far done voluntarily as an association, because we believe in the place and the project!
So, we're about to open the ZiMMT for you, because what would art be without people experiencing it?! Yet, before we can hold public events, there is still one crucial hurdle to clear: In order to start operating as an official venue, we have to apply for a building permit, undergo safety and fire protection inspection, and make certain constructional changes.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
The goal of this campaign is to raise 25.000 € for the building permit, inspections and reconstruction measures so that we can make the ZiMMT permanently accessible to the public beyond the few association events.
Lovers of experimental music - whether from areas of pop culture, subculture or new music - can experience high-quality concerts at ZiMMT, giving them an extraordinary experience thanks to 3D audio technology.
We support musicians, sound and media artists by means of gig opportunities, workshops, residencies and the commissioning of compositions. In this way, the association further aims to promote the entry of interested people into new media formats.
Newcomer artists benefit from the low-threshold, industrial setting of a charming venue for concerts, exhibitions or theater productions.
Artistic practice promotes the development of innovative technologies! As a forum, we connect experts and act as an interface between artistic institutions, science and industry.
Why would you support this project?
because we are very close to opening a unique cultural and exploratory center for immersive formats in media art, music and technology
because if our campaign is successful, you will soon be able to experience breathtaking and unique artistic productions at the ZiMMT
because some concert series, festivals and exhibitions are already planned and it is just a matter of being able to make our events public
because at ZiMMT we offer a low-threshold entry and education in the field of innovative media technologies
because ZiMMT creates a unique place for artistic innovation in Germany and Europe
because we have great thank-you gifts to offer for your support, like a concert pass, workshops, studio use, the first ZiMMT sampler and much more
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
With our first funding goal of 12.500 Euro we can take all necessary steps for acquiring the building permit:
the fire protection inspection
the architect who supports us during the application process
the fees for the building permit
the safety inspection
With reaching our second funding goal of 25.000 Euro we can finance the necessary building measures and officially open the ZiMMT:
the reconstruction of the entrance area
an escape door
Who are the people behind the project?
