Ausstellung >Interfaces< in Auckland, Neuseeland

Ich werde am 8.12.2018 in der städtischen Galerie Papakura Art Gallery in Auckland, Neuseeland die Ausstellung >Interfaces< eröffnen. Seit dem Jahr 2010 lebe ich abwechselnd in Deutschland und Neuseeland. Bei meinem letzten Aufenthalt in Neuseeland entstand eine Reihe von Malereien, die diesen Dezember von der Papakura Art Gallery gezeigt werden und so der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht werden.
Um bei der Eröffnung persönlich anwesend sein zu können, brauche ich insgesamt für Flüge und Unterkunft 3000€ da ich zur Zeit ein weiteres Studium der Malerei in Deutschland absolviere.

Es ist der Klang von Landschaft, den ich in meinen Bildern festhalte. In meiner Begegnung mit Neuseeland ist es die Schnittstelle zu einheimischen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern. Im Maorischen gibt es eine alte Redensart die sagt: >Lass meine Berge deine Berge grüßen; lass meine Flüsse deine Flüsse grüßen<. So werde ich meine Herkunft mit in das entfernteste Land auf der Welt nehmen.

Der Ausgangspunkt meiner Werkreihe für diese Ausstellung war der Ausgrabungsort der bisher ältesten Skulptur der Welt. In 2008 wurde in der Höhle 'Hohle Fels' in Baden Württemberg die Skulptur eines weiblichen Körpers entdeckt. Die Skulptur ist aus Mammut Elfenbein, 42.000 Jahre alt und befindet sich zur Zeit in der Archäologie Ausstellung 'Bewegte Zeiten' im Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin. Sie wird auch die 'Venus vom Hohle Fels' genannt. Die Höhle 'Hohle Fels' liegt im Achtal auf der Schwäbischen Alb und ist nur eine Stunde von meinem Heimatort entfernt. Daran fasziniert mich besonders, dass vor so langer Zeit schon Kunst entstanden ist und ich heute auch Kunst mache. Die Landschaft dieser Gegend bildet die Schnittstelle der ältesten Skulptur der Welt und mir. Diese Verbindung berührt mich sehr und wurde in Neuseeland zu der Reihe der Malereien transformiert.

Da Landschaften mein Leben prägen untersuche ich die Frage nach Herkunft und Heimat in meinen Bildern. Landschaften, in denen ich lebte, die ich besucht habe, die ich besuchen werde und nach denen ich mich sehne, bilden sich mittels Farben und Formen als Erinnerungen in meinen Malereinen heraus.

Ich würde sehr gerne bei der Eröffnung meiner Ausstellung in Auckland persönlich anwesend sein, um mich mit den anderen Positionen der Gruppenausstellung und den Besuchern auszutauschen. Die erfolgreiche Finanzierung von Flügen und Unterkunft würde das möglich machen.

I will open my first institutional exhibition >Interfaces< on December 8th 2018 at Papakura Art Gallery in Auckland, New Zealand. Since 2010 I am living both in Germany and New Zealand. On my last trip to New Zealand I created a series of works that will be shown this December at the Papakura Art Gallery and therefor be open to the public.
To be able to attend the opening celebration I need a total of € 3000,- for airfares and accommodation since I am currently studying another visual arts course in Germany.

In my paintings I want to preserve the sound of landscape. It is the interface between myself and my encounter with New Zealand and with local artists. In Maori there is an old saying; >Let my mountains welcome your mountains; let my rivers welcome your rivers<. I will bring my heritage into the country that is the furthest away from my home.

The starting point for my body of work for this show was an excavation site near my hometown where Archaeologists found the oldest sculpture in the world. In 2008 they discovered a sculpture shaped as a woman in a cave called 'Hohle Fels' in the Swabian alps. The sculpture is made out of mammoth ivory. It is 42.000 Years old and currently on show in the exhibition 'Bewegte Zeiten' at the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin. She is also called the 'Venus of Hohle Fels'. The cave 'Hohle Fels' is located in the 'Achtal' in the Swabian alps. I am fascinated by the fact that already in the last ice age humans were creating art and that they were based in the area where my ancestor lived for decades. The landscape, that was home to the creator of the oldest sculpture in the world and myself is the interface between the two. I find this connection very touching and it inspired me to create this series of paintings while in New Zealand.

Because landscapes leave their mark on my life, I investigate the question of heritage and homeland in my paintings. Landscapes, that I lived in, landscapes that I have visited, that I will visit in the future and landscapes that I desire, form itself with colour and form to memories in my paintings.

I would love to attend the opening of my exhibition in Auckland to be able to exchange thoughts and discuss with the other artists of the show and the visitors. I also want to give an artist talk during the first week of my show and am considering an oil painting workshop for the wider community of South Auckland. The successful financing of airfares and accommodation would make this possible.

With my crowdfunding campaign there is a rare opportunity to purchase my artwork for a very reasonable prize. So to say I open my studio door to the public and one can get an impression in my work as an artist. The exhibition in New Zealand will be a great show with my more recent paintings and I am sure, it will be a door opener for my international artist career.
