Liebe Freunde,

Carmela

Dear friends,

First, I would like to say sorry for being silent during the last month. As you can imagine, it has been a very stressful period. If my body could speak on behalf of me, it would tell you stories about bruises, aches, backaches, scratches on my hands, sleepless nights and acid-lactic-awakenings. But despite all the physical efforts, setting the shop up gave me the chance to learn something new about change. Indeed, I didn't know anything about painting walls, placing heavy Altbau-doors, nailing a baseboard, assembling furniture. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone that was mostly shaped by concepts more than physical actions, and now I'm happy for realizing that I made it.

All that made me think about the mission of Herbie: changing our habits in favour of a more sustainable way to consume. Turning what we estimate to be impossible into something real. Migrating from a wasting-world to a renovated conscious one. To do it, we need to experience changes at all levels, from the littlest ones - in our private life - to the widest collective breakthroughs.

I would like to say thanks to all those gentle souls who helped me during this messy month: The ones who got their hands dirty and the others who passed by the shop just to say hello and give a hug. A special thanks to all the supporters for trusting Herbie through the crowdfunding. I feel we are building something to be proud of.
Now I'm working on the last details to be ready for receiving all the fair-produced regional and organic products for the store and finally open Herbie’s doors. Within the next two weeks, I will disclose the official starting date, so stay tuned on Herbie's social media pages.

Meanwhile, in these hard times in which Covid seems to be stronger than before, I would like to encourage all of you to take care of yourself and other people, by following all the safety measures necessary to go out from this mess. I'm also trying to figure out how the new measures from the Government will affect not only the opening date of Herbie but the whole business, too: the shop is twenty square meters, so I'll find a way for people to not crowd inside. As you can see I'm an optimist: I'm waiting for multitudes ready to change!

Thank you for your time,
Carmela
