What is this project all about?

This project is about improving the TYPO3 user interface. TYPO3 is a web
content management system under General Public License. It's around for
more than ten years and is one of the most successful open source CMSes
worldwide.

More and more results of "TYPO3 User Experience Week" in November 2009 are
being implemented as core-features or TYPO3 extensions. Back then a team
of around 30 developers, designers and project managers laid the
foundation for a more user friendly TYPO3.

One part of this was already implemented as the Grid Elements extension
which is available for download from the official extension repository
since 2011. We want to develop this extension further and adapt it to the
new TYPO3 6.0 core.

Our official project page can be found here: http://forge.typo3.org/projects/typo3v4-gridelements

Developing free software however depends on skilled developers as well as
on sponsors because large parts of the project happen outside of paid work
environments. We want tho bring both of them together in this project to
further improve TYPO3's user interface.

What is the project goal and who is the project for?

The goal is to publish Grid Elements version 2.0 in early 2013. This
version will be compatible to the TYPO3 6.0 core and will contain several
new features that make the daily work with the CMS faster and easier.

Our target group is all TYPO3 users ranging from full service agencies
over freelancers to end users with editorial access.

Why would you support this project?

Free software's motto is: free as in "free speech," not as in "free beer".
To be able to free their mind as well and work independently and creatively developers need the help
of sponsors to make a living.

In return sponsors can tap into valuable know-how through our offered
"thank-you"s for their own projects or have their favorite features implemented.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

In case of a successful funding a team of up to seven developers will be invited to
participate in a one-week code sprint around January 2013 in snowy Clausthal-Zellerfeld in
Upper Harz. Accommodation will be offered in Hotel "Krone", actual work will be
performed in the former auditorium of Clausthal University of Technology -
both visible in the image slideshow on this page.

New features will be implemented as Grid Elements extension version 2.0
until the end of January 2013
to be ready before the TYPO3 core project
goes into its so called feature-freeze. It's up to the TYPo3 core team to decide if it will be implemented or not, so we will make sure that it will work independently as well.

In contrast to previous TYPO3 code sprints the money will this time not
only be spent on travel, accommodation and food, but also for paying
developers for their work. This is our approach to make sure planned
features will be implemented in good quality and in a timely manner.

Who are the people behind the project?

Cybercr@ft Media Manufactory, Clausthal-Zellerfeld, is responsible for
conducting this code sprint and for payments to participants.

We are TYPO3 developers and supporters from day one and are specialised in
providing services based on this successful CMS since 2003.
Numerous extensions, parts of TYPO3's core, the TYPO3 Cookbook published
by O'Reilly as well as thousands of support answers in TYPO3 newsgroups,
forums and mailing lists are results of our work so far.

Furthermore we are TYPO3-Association members and we were present at most
official conferences and dev days with presentations and workshops
since 2006.

As a qualified industrial manager with skills in management consulting Petra, project manager, assures a commercially correct execution and taxation. Jo is head of engineering and takes care of coordinating the software development together with Rocco of PavingWays. This way we want to make sure features are implemented by the team as promised and according to our sponsor's interest.
