Crowdfunding since 2010
Inspired by „Warped Passages“, Hèctor Parra composed a chamber opera together with Harvard physicist Lisa Randall : the work deals with hidden universes, the existential urge to research as well as our boundaries of understanding and interdependencies in the so-called real world. Now Zafraan Ensemble presents the staged world premiere of HYPERMUSIC PROLOGUE, directed by Benjamin Schad . In addition, this exceptional production shall be documented on film.

Ensembleproben mit Zafraan / Ensemble rehearsals with Zafraan

„3-2-1 Ignition“, it sounds from the gallery in the direction of the mixing desk. During the ensemble rehearsals not only the musicians of Zafraan Ensemble and conductor Manuel Nawri are present, but also Wolfgang Heiniger and Hadas Pe’ery who control the live electronics in Hypermusic Prologue. In Hèctor Parra’s music, voice and instruments are complemented by complex live electronics, which adds a new dimension. The instrumentation – violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone and percussion – differs from the one of the half-scenic premiere in Paris in 2009: Specifically for Zafraan Ensemble, Hèctor Parra recomposed the former french horn part for saxophone. Rather uncommon instruments such as the waterphone are used as well. What Miguel Pérez Iñesta, Zafraan clarinetist and co-initiator of this production, finds especially fascinating about Hèctor Parra’s music is that you might not understand it at first, but then patterns and structures gradually begin to crystallise and the music gets clearer and more comprehensible, similar to the creation of a sculpture.
