What is this project all about?
On October 2nd UMC's first tour will start. It's going to be
Tobi and Nils, two friends on their metal-crusade across
They will support the band Kissin' Dynamite during their „Megalomania over Europe“ - Tour, with 25 confirmed gigs.
To successfully realise such a huge project, including 25 concerts, a more than 12.000km journey and 4 people on their mission to bring metal music back, a crowdfunding campaign is needed. The two students need their fans' support to be able to pay for all incoming costs, for example the crew, catering, insurances, accommodation and many more.
„We're so looking forward to this tour! Especially as we finally get to meet our fans and followers in person! We can't wait to party with our fans and drink a massive amount of beer together! This is going to be a celebration and no one should miss out on it!“, Nils and Tobias stated.
Ultimate Music Covers (UMC) consists of Tobias Derer and Nils Lesser, two friends, who made it their business to transform top 10 hits into groovy metal covers with guitars and drums. The impressive skills of the two artists can be seen in 11 videos of the UMC-metal-covers.
For one and a half years they have been elating more than 6 million fans via their UMC YouTube-channel (http://youtube.com/user/UltimateMusicCovers1 ) with more than 60.000 subscribers and 17.000 followers on Facebook. Saturday Night Online awarded them with the title „YouTube Celebrity of the Month“.
The Mannheim based musicians set off a new, trend-setting way of
metal-movement with a rapidly growing fan base but without the help
of a major label. And it's quite obvious why this is working out so
well. The amazing skills of the two guys and their way of making
and living their music are authentic and persuasive.
The explanation of the two musicians is humbler: „UMC simply is a huge party where you know everyone and you've invited all your friends. It's about enjoying metal music and parties and getting to know new people.“
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
Our mission is to make people headbang and mosh to songs by Britney Spears, Avicii or even Lady Gaga.
Why would you support this project?
Because it is uber-wicked and important! UMC have the chance to
bring metal back and this tour is the first step in this direction.
You've got to seize this opportunity!
However, the main reason is that we would run into dept during this tour and wouldn't be able to continue our work with UMC afterwards.
A friend says: „There's no one who works as hard as these two
guys. They haven't been doing anything else ever since their school
days. It's all about music, day after day! They are giving their
eye-teeth for the project and I'd more than grant them the
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
We will invest the amount of money in the tour and UMC. While touring there are many incoming costs like fuel, accommodation, crew, catering, merchandise and insurances. Seeing as we've been working on this project for more than a year without any income, we now have to rely on the support of our fans.
Who are the people behind the project?
Tobias Derer, drummer and video producer of UMC, started to realise his dream of becoming a professional musician at the early age of six. His passion for all sorts of musical styles is shown in the variety of gigs he played so far, including tours with classical orchestras, jazz gigs, rock concerts, metal shows and many more. Tobias started to study Jazz at the age of 18 while he was still going to school. Playing in more than twenty bands and renowned ensembles, he toured internationally several times and he even appeared on German TV. Nowadays he studies Pop Music Design, works as a session and clinic drummer and of course plays the drums for Cypecore and Beyond the Black.
Nils Lesser, guitarist and sound producer of UMC, started playing the guitar when he was 10 years old. Listening to a lot of records and bands fueled his passion for sound and recording early on. At this stage, he started to record every befriended band he knew at that time. Since then his path has been set. Forming the band Cypecore with his friends in 2007, Nils began to record full length albums professionally and switched back and forth between touring and recording for several years. Running his own studio and studying music production, Nils continues his perfection and passion for sound.
