Worum geht es in dem Projekt?
The third summer camp for child monks will take place during summer 2017 in our partner school in Changthang. Workshops conducted during the summer camp will be a consequence of data and feedback procured from the last two summer camps (2012 and 2014) that took place with the same community. Discussions, interaction with nature and play will be emphasized. Four volunteers are to facilitate Friluftsliv-inspired workshops e.g. exploring nature on foot, observing and sketching flora, fauna and local earth-based architecture. Based on new data procured from Summer Camp 2017, we would like to provide the regional authorities recommendations for future educational policies and practices in Changthang.
Was sind die Ziele und wer ist die Zielgruppe?
- Children in monastic contexts
- Local stakeholders in the Changthang region
- The Education Committees responsible for the monastery-school.
Warum sollte jemand dieses Projekt unterstützen?
In our estimation, it appears that instead of developing factory-schooling and kindergarten models based on examples from mainland India, an educational model that integrates the Friluftsliv philosophy would not only be more respectful of the convention, but also be better suited for Ladakh's environmental future in general. One might object that exporting minority world culture to the majority world seems imperialistic. However, it must be taken into account that Scandinavian expeditions to the Himalayas have also contributed to the Friluftsliv and eco-philosophy in Norway (Nils Faarlund 2015). By recommending ways of integrating Friluftsliv into the modern educational practices in the Changthang, this research would be an act of cultural reciprocity, rather than cultural imperialism.
Your contribution would nourish an initiative which strives to support the people of Changthang to transition into global educational networks in a way that the well-being of the children as well as the environment where they are growing up is not compromised to the extent that it currently is.
Was passiert mit dem Geld bei erfolgreicher Finanzierung?
The money that you donate will be used to cover materials for the summer camp, as well as systematically document and evaluate the summer camp in order to present a report with recommendations for future directions to the Educational Committee of the monastic school where we will work.
Major Summer Camp Materials include printing costs for customized books created with the community (including children), report processing, production and regional dissemination.
