What is this project all about?
A very special book app
Our book app for iPads and Android tablets combines the
wonderful story "Meta Morfoss" by the German writer Peter Hacks
(1928-2003) with illustrations by the Russian illustrator, animator
and game designer Max Litvinov (aka Kclogg).
What's special about the app is the "reading quest" format. Users read the text and search for particular keywords, which are animated when tapped, making something happen in the picture. Thus readers gradually make their way through the story. Users can switch between versions in three languages: German, English and Russian.
What is the story about?
At times Meta Morfoss turns herself into a mussel in a forest of
seaweed, or an angel flying into the red of the night sky, or she
gives the staff on a steam train a proper shock. Her parents and
her aunt Herr Maffrodit are used to her antics, but her teacher
Doktor Pauli and the garbage man Karsunke want her to behave as she
should. Meta has to decide who she is so that people can get to
know her properly! And what are a burglar, Albert Einstein and the
violinist David Oistrakh doing in the story?
Don’t be surprised if at the end your tablet tells you “I’m Meta!” Often more is possible than we think...
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
German enhanced e-books and book apps are often aimed in terms of content and design at children who are still being read aloud to. However, our "Meta Morfoss" app is for children who can already read and for whom there is little available in app stores. We also want reading on a tablet to remain a scintillating, rewarding experience and that this be due to a literary text itself - not its retelling or adaptation but good, real literature.
We want to exploit the possibilities of programming to their utmost and combine great literature with wonderful illustrations and good design to make a unique app.
Our app will also therefore be of interest to literature lovers and experts.
Why would you support this project?
Our book app for children focuses on reading and the text from
which the illustrations should not distract. Our reading quest
format is unique in the world. It combines the fun of reading with
the fun of technology.
Our prototype is ready. Help and support us to produce our unique app for children! With your help we can have our "Meta Morfoss" app in the stores from mid-2014!
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
We will be able to pay the freelancers in our team – the illustrator, the UX/UI designer, the sound designer and the programmer. Some of the money will also go towards testing and preparing the launch in app stores.
