Social Academia makes online education support accessible to students in Africa. COVID-19 has changed our perceptions of education. This current crisis has proven to us that we need reform in our traditional schooling system. Students must still be able to learn even if their schools are closed. Our solution suggests an open online channel (for live lessons and videos) where they will continue to educate themselves and prepare for their final exams at a consistent pace, without interruptions.
Social Academia is a mobile application that aims at providing students in Africa with access to online education support. This groundbreaking technology (in Africa) makes it possible for them to solidify school knowledge through short, instructor-led, live courses, and e-text/books. Both students who are preparing for official exams and those who are still locked down due to the Covid-19 pandemic can now continue their studies with minimal interruptions. This platform is interactive, very user-friendly, and extremely affordable. It literally is a great tool to promote education and technology in economically-challenged parts of the world.
During the Corona lockdown episode, many students in Cameroon were abandoned to themselves with no alternatives offered to them. They were somehow forced to form groups to study together in hidden places--with the help of a brave teacher who would risk his/her health to ensure that they were preparing for their final exams still. The real issue was that no technology existed in Cameroon to support those needs. Other local challengers have websites that do not offer any online support.
In addition, many African countries (including Cameroon) are still transitioning into the new technology world where online learning is common. Our recent studies revealed that the majority of African students cannot perform basic searches online, and most schools do not offer any online resources to their students. Social Academia is a viable solution. It provides students with appropriate resources (mini live courses and videos, free ebooks, a social network, and free access to tutoring) through a simple app that will help them succeed in their academic journey. Our main purpose was to make it completely free, but we resolved to charge a very little fee to support our staff and instructors.
Was sind die Ziele und wer ist die Zielgruppe?
Our mission is to offer a simple and basic tool that will allow students from all grades to learn using technology. Our mobile application is very interactive and user-friendly. This platform provides students with appropriate resources (mini live courses and videos, free ebooks, a social network, and free access to tutoring) to help them succeed in their academic journey.
Primarily, students who are preparing for official exams such as the Abitur and other lower grade exams. This technology is launched in Africa while our next product is to be released for use in Germany and Europe, in general.
Warum sollte jemand dieses Projekt unterstützen?
The Covid-19 pandemic forced us to re-examine our traditional education system. E-learning has become an absolute resort for many schools in many Western countries. Nevertheless, their counterparts in Africa, for example, are struggling with an effective way to make it through the lockdown and potentially return to a somehow normal track. A lockdown should not mean "No More School" for them. Making this project possible will transform the life and academic experience of millions of young students in Africa. Winning this battle means winning it together. Your help will make this a reality. Remember, there is no greater satisfaction than that of making someone else happy. Your call.
Was passiert mit dem Geld bei erfolgreicher Finanzierung?
To fully launch the app and have students enjoy its benefits, we need 148,987 €. We intend to cover any the remaining technology costs, marketing, staff recruitment, transportation/logistics, office space rental, equipment, and other essential needs. This technology truly is the change many children, especially in Africa longed for. Your contribution will make that dream come true. That amount will secure and help complete the first part of the project (releasing our first product to be used in Africa where the need is the most severe).
Wer steht hinter dem Projekt?
Social Academia is currently backed by some organizations here in Berlin, Germany such as Berlin Partners and IHK, with the help of Deutsche Bank that is providing us with banking services. At the moment, our team is very small but solid. We are also considering a possible collaboration with a technical university here in Berlin for further work and development.
