What is this project all about?
Art Spin is a group bike tour that combines two great cultures: bicycles and art. The tour consist of six selected projects that take place in six different venues. These projects consist of music/conceptual art performances, gallery/studio visits, artist talks, film screenings, interactive artworks, and more.
Participants ride together from one stop to another as a united group, where social interaction, the use of public space, and community involvement become part of the art experience. Art Spin Berlin is free and open to everyone, regardless of cycling ability or artistic knowledge.
Art Spin was founded in Toronto, Canada in 2009. Though Art Spin Berlin functions as a separate entity, we are continually inspired by and supported by Art Spin Toronto.
What is the project goal and who is the project for?
Our goal is to create a free community based art event that
highlights the diversity and vibrancy of the Berlin art scene
outside of a traditional gallery context. Like Art Spin Toronto,
our mission is to bridge the gap between the art world and the
general public. We are committed to making this event interesting,
enjoyable, and available to everyone.
Why would you support this project?
We believe that supporting our project is contributing to the development and knowledge of Public Art in a exciting and engaging way, and also to the the success of the artists who are involved.
As one of our goals is to make Art Spin Berlin accessible to
everyone, it needs to be a free event. The difficulty is that we
also strongly believe that artists should be compensated fairly for
what they do and should not work or produce anything without
compensation. Therefore we need financial support from another
source in order to produce our tour.
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
If successfully funded, the money will be used for the following:
- Material and logistical costs of each artist's project
- Artist fees
- Promotion and production of the tour
- Documentation of the tour for future funding and grant applications
